Hungry Town Tours Becomes First Carteret County Business Accepted in NC GreenTravel Program

Hungry Town Tours is the first business in Carteret County to join and become certified in the NC GreenTravel Initiative, a program that recognizes state travel-related businesses that employ healthy environmental practices.

Hungry Town Tours, located in Beaufort, qualified for recognition through the program because of its green practices.

“NC GreenTravel Initiative is proud to welcome Hungry Town Tours as the program’s 69th recognized sustainable travel business,” stated Tom Rhodes, NC GreenTravel program coordinator. We are particularly excited to recognize them as the very first green business in Carteret County to become a part of the NC GreenTravel Initiative,” he said.

Hungry Town Tours offers a variety of bicycle tours in Beaufort, North Carolina. While each tour is unique, the underlying goal remains the same. We provide environmentally friendly options to those who love the outdoors and are keenly aware that preserving nature is essential to their travel experience today and for years to come.

Throughout the bicycle tours, visitors begin to understand Beaufort’s defining historical assets, along with a quality of life that contributes to the area’s uniqueness and perceived value. The exchange of cultural, historical and geographical information becomes quite enriching for residents and newcomers during their Hidden Beaufort Tour. The goal of Hungry Town Tours is to combine the promotion of tourist attractions with the preservation and protection of these attractions through heritage tourism.

Today, more and more people are planning getaways around food. They are looking for much more in the way of food-and wine-focused travel than ever before, and that includes bicycle tours. Hungry Town Tours fills that niche with their Beaufort Culinary Bike Tour, Beaufort Lunchbox Tour, North Carolina Shrimp Tour, North Carolina Oyster Tour, and Bike, Brunch & Bubbles. Walking tours include: Food by Foot Culinary Walking Tour, and the Sunday Brunch Walkabout.

“Our culinary tours promote restaurants with locally-sourced food that allow for an enhanced guest experience for those visiting Beaufort,” stated David Cartier of Hungry Town Tours. “We pride ourselves on working with restaurants offering fresh, local products and supporting our local fishermen and farmers,” he said.

“People have always taken the greenness of bike transport as a given,” stated Cartier. “At Hungry Town Tours, we have combined green from “spoke to fork,” said Cartier. “We’ve achieved this by combining nature-based travel with culinary tourism through bicycle and walking tours,” he said.

“Biking is one of the most sustainable modes of travel and we encourage more people to commute and tour by bicycle,” stated Rhodes.

Hungry Town Tours was certified on August 26, 2013 and received their re-certification on March 9, 2016.
